Pinckney Named Assistant?

08Sep07

Yesterday according to the Star Tribune, Ed Pinckney had been named the coach to take Rex Kalamian’s spot on te staff after he left for Sacramento this past week. Pinckney is an assistant at Villanova and coached Timberwolves guard Randy Foye when he was in college. He also played 12 season in the NBA after being drafted by Phoenix in 1985.

But, according to the Philadelphia Daily News, not so fast…

They have reported that Pickney has not agreed to become a Wolves assistant. They cite a source close to the situation and also mention that he was not available to comment on the situation.

My Thoughts:
– Wouldn’t be a bad sign. He obviously knows Randy Foye pretty well from coaching him when he was in college.

– Also, it sounds like there have been numerous teams approaching him during the last few seasons.

– Finally, when they say “source close to the situation” it does make it sound as if although maybe he isn’t a coach for the Wolves yet, maybe they are in contact and talking about a deal.

Right now, we’ll have to wait for an official announcement.
